Food reaches our plates through knowledge, labour, technology and cooperation. A National Farmers Day learning journey helped students follow this story from the paddy field to rice production and appreciate the people behind it.
01 · Beginning in the field
Understanding how rice is grown
Students observed the landscape, crops and conditions needed for paddy cultivation. Seeing the field firsthand helped them connect soil, water, weather and plant growth with ideas studied in science and geography.
02 · Respect for skilled work
Recognising the farmer’s contribution
The visit made the effort behind everyday food visible. Learners considered the patience, judgement and physical work involved in farming, developing respect for agricultural communities and the uncertainty they manage.
03 · From crop to product
Discovering the production process
Following harvested paddy through cleaning, processing and packaging showed students how agriculture and technology work together. Each stage introduced ideas about machinery, quality, hygiene and efficient use of resources.
04 · Connected subjects
One experience, many lessons
The journey connected environmental science, economics, nutrition and social studies. It also encouraged students to ask where products come from and how choices made by consumers affect producers and the environment.
05 · Gratitude in action
Learning to value food
Understanding the work behind a grain of rice can influence daily habits. Students returned with a stronger reason to avoid waste, value natural resources and recognise the interdependence of farms, businesses and families.
