To bring learning beyond the classroom, 37 students from Balaji HighFields International School embarked on an inspiring educational trip to the Fishery Survey of India (FSI), Visakhapatnam). The visit was designed to introduce students to the fascinating world of marine science and the important role fisheries play in maintaining ecological balance and supporting livelihoods.
The day began with a guided tour of the Marine Museum, where students observed various marine species, specimens, and exhibits that showcased India’s rich aquatic biodiversity. They learned about the tools, technology, and methods used in fisheries research — from studying marine life behavior to understanding oceanic data collection. The interactive displays helped students connect classroom science with real-world applications, deepening their appreciation for ocean ecosystems.
The highlight of the visit was the unique opportunity to board the research vessel “Matsya Shikari”, a floating laboratory equipped for deep-sea exploration. Students got a glimpse into how scientists conduct surveys, collect samples, and monitor marine environments. This hands-on exposure not only sparked curiosity but also gave them a sense of how research contributes to sustainable fishing and environmental conservation.
Through this experience, students gained valuable insights into marine biology, oceanography, and environmental sustainability — subjects that align closely with the school’s focus on experiential and holistic learning.
At Balaji HighFields International School, we continue to nurture curiosity and scientific thinking, ensuring that every learning journey encourages students to explore, question, and innovate — both inside and outside the classroom.
